SmartShopper®

SmartShopper®

All eligible members of groups with fully insured health insurance plans now have access to a product that delivers savings by empowering them to find cost-effective care. Employers can earn rewards ranging from $20 to $425 simply by shopping around and comparing prices for eligible procedures through SmartShopper.

Here is how it works:

  • Shop: When the doctor recommends a routine medical procedure, the employee calls a SmartShopper Personal Assistant or shops online.
  • Procedure: Employee has procedure at the reward-eligible location of their choice.
  • Reward: Once the procedure is complete and the claim is paid, a reward check is mailed to the employee’s home.

Pharmaceutical savings

As pharmaceutical spend continues to rise, the pharmacy team at Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Kansas has implemented several programs to decrease the financial impact for groups and members.

HighTouchRx:

  • Specialty drugs make up half of total drug spend.
  • The HighTouchRx program identifies savings opportunities for members with high-cost specialty conditions. Pharmacist-led provider outreach optimizes drug therapy and delivers savings.
  • The program has saved over $6.1 million since it was implemented in 2022 including over $1.8 million in 2024.
  • Pharmacists conducted 227 interventions with over $8,100 in savings per claim.

IntegratedRx:

  • Oncology and Cystic Fibrosis puts everyone on the same team.
  • Members can get their medicine through their participating clinic’s integrated pharmacy, which offers direct lines of communication between the provider and pharmacist.
  • This end-to-end coordination across the entire treatment pathway integrates the specialty pharmacy and provider ecosystems to unlock the best value, create a better member and provider experience, and reduce your total cost of care.
  • IntegratedRX saved over $1.5 million in 2024.
